Post Team Fortress 2 -- Demo Smoother questions Reply with quote
So I've followed along with two different Demo Smoother tutorials, and I am still confused. Here's the main issue.

When I want to move the camera, the tutorials say to click the "Set View" button, and then the "Drive" button, and drive the camera to the spot where you want it to be. Then click the "Make Key" button to set the camera there. Then repeat this process for different key frames.

That doesn't work for me. When I click the "Make Key" button, it sets the camera back on the original track (as if I'd never moved it).

After some playing around, I found the following DOES work for me: I find the right tick, and click Drive... Then I CLICK AND HOLD the "Make Key" button, and drive the camera to it's location, and then release the Make Key button. This properly moves the camera to the desired spot.

I have no idea what the "Set View" button does.

Some other questions, since I'm very new to machinima:

1) Can I be both cameraman and actor? Can I film myself?
2) I joined a public server and recorded a demo, and then tried to film stuff that happened in other areas of the map. However, I quickly found that the only things I can see in the demo is the action that was immediately in my area. How can I see everyone on the entire level?

Thanks for your help!

Here is the Easiest tutorial to follow there is. There isn't any way you can record things happening across the map from you sorry. You have to at least be in the general area for it to be recorded. Just take out the spaces so you can see it.

Thanks for the info.

That tutorial you posted was indeed one that I followed. The problem that I is where he discussed moving the camera around. He says first press "Drive", then press "Set View". Then drive the camera to the spot you want it to be, and then press "Make Key".

My issue is, when I push "Make Key", it immediately snaps me back to the original track (as if I hadn't driven the camera around). However, as I said, if I forget the "Set View" button altogether and just click and hold "Make Key" (while in Drive mode), I can then properly place the camera.

FWIW, this is in Team Fortress 2.

In my new Series "The Fortress", a TF2 Machinima, I tried this process with the Demo Smoother but I found it a thousand times easier to just film in no clip mode with the HUD turned off. I don't believe it's possible to film yourself unless you are typing in thirdperson into console. So... I'm sorry I couldn't help more but I've been in your shoes and failed lol...

Hey I just grabbed a bunch of friends and had them do the body acting for me Very Happy

And yes you have to select drive then hold the make key down - and move YOU (the camera pov) using the WASD keys to position it up.. then u let go XD - for some reason it only works this way in TF 2...

The problems I have been having recently though is once you click 'show processed' it only shows my character's movement... nothing else in the game I recorded is moving. And it won't go forward or back with the << >> controls... It has to be a glitch of some sort.. but I need to be able to see what i'm working with!

So if you happen to know the answer to my problem Very Happy that would be awesome lolol.
