You’re joking right?
So I was checkin the ol’ Gmail, ya know, answering some director emails and making sure the waters of the Sims community doesn’t drown anyone (whatever that means), when I came upon a suggested link. Now for those of you that don’t know what the Gmail suggested links are, they are basically links that are provided by Google every time you open an email. The mail program searches your mail for keywords and suggests a link by those keywords. For example, every time I go to clear my spam I get Spam recipes. So you get it right?
Well here’s why I am blogging about this:
Really? Something better than the Sims eh? Why haven’t I heard of it? So I spent a few minutes trying to pronounce Vivaty and I went to explore it. First of all it looks like crap. The faces the characters make by default are ugly and scary. Second the controls are slow and unpolished. Third, well you get the point. It’s not like or better than the Sims. The only thing it doesn’t differently is exist online and even we had a run with that on the Sims Online
Instantly I realize its MUCH more like Second Life than the Sims. So it’s NOT better than The Sims, it’s different than The Sims, in the same way Second Life is different than The Sims. There’s no aging in Vivaty BTW. No jobs I’d assume, and probably no fun making machinima. Sorry I fail to see how this is better than the Sims. I don’t see how claiming to be better than the worlds highest selling PC game of all time is ok.
I tried to play this travesty but the game crashes with Firefox (which they claim they’ve fixed even before I tried the game) and I can’t play beyond one zone.

You are right.
Someone pointed out your blog to me, and after reading it, I agree with you. And so we pulled down the ad about Vivaty being “better than” the Sims. As first of all that is simply just not true, and secondly that is not the point we should be focusing on. We are not trying to be “better than” the Sims, but more of something similar but different. Something more about socializing and less about playing a game like the Sims, which is a great game, if not the greatest game ever. I hope someday Vivaty is something people can use to talk to other Sims lovers when they are not busy playing the Sims.
So, to make a long story short, you made a good point, we listened, and took the ad down.
I do hope you will give it another try. And if you dont like the controls I would be interested to know what it is you dont like and what we can do to make them better.
