Machinima’s Haloween Movie Contest
Okay, okay! Don’t get too excited! Actually, do! Why? WHY, you ask? Because you’z ’bout to become famous, yo! Alright, maybe not, but you’re still gonna be stoked about this. I’m talking about this–THIS contest! THE contest of contests. Machinimators, I’m talkin’ to you, yo! I want you guys to reenact (using Halo 3) your favorite famous horror scene from your favorite famous horror movie. Be at your best, because the reward is an HD, HDMI capture card (HERE IT IS [the Intensity Pro model]).
This is gonna get crazy, because I know some of you guys are simply going to blow me away with what you create. Be careful not to use any copyrighted material. Reenact the best you can with what you have and with what you can create. Scare the hell out of me! Make me straight up shiat my pants! Make it so I can’t sleep without the lights on for weeks to come!
So here’s what you do. First, you make your movie! We prefer it in Quicktime format (.mov). Second, you submit it to us HERE. Make sure in the “Short Title” you put “HALOween H3 entry” (refer to the image below).
Third, you wait…you sit in front of your computer until Halloween just waiting.
Here are the guidelines/rules to the contest:
- Eligibility: Contest is offered to gamers worldwide, who are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry or have a parent/guardian present to approve the prizes.Employees, producers and directors of Machinima, Inc., their respective affiliated and subsidiary companies, advertising and promotional agencies, Webmasters and Web suppliers and the immediate family members (spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, ward, daughter or son) or members of the households of such employees or directors or family members (whether or not related) (collectively, the “Releasees”) are not eligible to enter or win a prize. By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding in all respects.
- To Enter: During the Contest Period, go to http://machinima.com/film/upload_form and submit your film. In order for your submission to be recognized, please enter the title “HALOween H3 entry” into the Short Title form. You must be a registered user on Machinima.com to enter.
- Participation:
- Limit one (1) person (author) per entry. Multiple entries from the same person are permitted, but each must be submitted entirely separate from any other entry.
- Contestants must either be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry or have a parent/guardian present to approve the prizes.
- All entries (submissions) must be submitted via upload and received on the Web Site during the Contest Period. No entries can be posted outside the Web Site during the Contest Period.
To enter, submit/upload the following as directed at the Web Site:
* a machinima video recording (in WMV, MOV or AVI format, maximum file size of 100 mb).
- Entries received via the Web Site after October 30, 2008 will be deemed ineligible for participation in the Contest. Any attempt at entry except as above stated is void.
- By submitting an entry you irrevocably assign to Machinima, Inc. (”Machinima”) the right to display, modify and edit your entry for the purposes of promoting and advertising your entry and the Contest. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by these Official rules including all eligibility requirements. By accepting a prize, winners consent to the use of their names, images, likenesses, photo, voices, and biographical materials for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes by Machinima, or a party designated by Machinima including but not limited to, any online announcements, without additional notice or compensation, except where prohibited by law. Entrants agree that any and all disputes shall be governed by the laws of the State of New York. Entrants agree that the conditions of submission set forth in these Official rules, and all documents and agreements incorporated in these Official rules by reference, solely govern the relationship between entrants and Sponsor in connection with this Contest.
- Sponsor assumes no responsibility for illegible, lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete entries, system errors and failures, faulty transmissions, or other telecommunications malfunctions. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate or suspend the Contest should any unauthorized intervention or other cause beyond the control of the Sponsor affect the administration or conduct of the Contest.
- A winner will be chosen on October 31, 2008 by a member of the Machinima.com staff.
- Prizes
- Blackmagic Design, Intensity Pro HD capture card (reference)–retail value: $349
All taxes and any other costs and expenses not specifically stated within these Official rules are the sole responsibility of the winners. Prizes may not be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Specifics of the prizes are in Sponsor’s sole discretion. prizes are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prizes or a portion of the prizes is unavailable.
All winners must sign, complete and return a notarized Release of Liability, Affidavit of Eligibility and (except where prohibited) a Publicity Release before receiving any prize. Prizes are not exchangeable, transferable, or redeemable for cash. For all prizes, Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize of equal value. This Contest is governed by U.S. law and is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void in Puerto Rico, all U.S. territories and possessions, overseas military installations and wherever prohibited by law. Any and all other costs, fees, taxes and expenses not explicitly stated herein as being awarded, are the sole responsibility of the prize recipient.
9. The selected potential winners will be notified by email or telephone within ten days of the close of the Contest Period. The potential winners will have forty-eight (48) hours from the moment such notification is issued to respond to such notification by following the instructions provided therein. If a potential winner timely responds to such notification, he/she may then be sent an affidavit of eligibility and a liability/publicity release by email, and must complete, sign and return all required documentation within forty-eight (48) hours of issuance. If the potential winner does not reply to the notification within forty- eight (48) hours of its issuance or does not return the signed documents within forty-eight (48) hours of their issuance (if applicable), he/she is ineligible, or he/she cannot or does not comply with these official rules as determined by Sponsor, he/she will be disqualified, the prize will be forfeited, and an alternate winner may be selected, at Sponsor’s discretion. In the event of noncompliance with either the rules or any of these time periods, an alternate winner may be selected at Sponsor’s discretion. Sponsor has the right to revise dates and procedures mentioned in these rules.
10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: ENTRANTS HEREBY AGREE TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD HARMLESS MACHINIMA, INC., HALO-PRO, AND EACH OF THEIR AFFILIATES, SUBSIDIARIES, DIVISIONS, PARENT AND RELATED COMPANIES, ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION AGENCIES, EMPLOYEES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS AND SHAREHOLDERS (COLLECTIVELY, THE “RELEASEES”) FROM ANY CLAIMS, ACTIONS, INJURY, LOSS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH, RESULTING FROM PARTICIPATING IN THIS CONTEST, INABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS CONTEST OR FROM THE ACCEPTANCE, POSSESSION, OR USE OR MISUSE OF ANY PRIZE AWARDED OR PARTICIPATION OR INABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY PRIZE-RELATED ACTIVITY. THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY IS A COMPREHENSIVE LIMITATION OF LIABILITY THAT APPLIES TO ALL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING (WITHOUT LIMITATION) COMPENSATORY, DIRECT, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES; LOSS OF DATA, INCOME, OR PROFIT; LOSS OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; AND CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES. Cheating: Participants agree not to knowingly damage or cause interruption of the Contest and/or prevent others from utilizing the Contest. Why is the prize something which is already required to make the machinima? That’s just fucking stupid.
This is a professional graphics card that is well above the fold as far as quality goes. You can capture in HD for instance.
As Micah mentioned, we’re offering an HD capture card that a lot of machinimators are drooling over. 99% of machinima directors/editors are using a non-HD capture card. Also, 99% of them don’t have the cash to drop on a new capture card even though they would love to have something nicer. This card will allow you to capture in 1080p!
While a capture card is generally required to make a machinima, the quality of the card is what the prize is, plus bragging rights!
I’m working on myne already. If I won I would probably faint, then wake up, then remember I won and faint again. Wouldn’t that be so awesome though? A HDMI capcard. =) I wish I had one!
This should have been announced at the beginning of October… then dispatch would have gone all out on it… We have like what 1 week?

xRotRx Gurilla, you can also use a camcorder to capture Halo video, as long as you have some way of sending the footage from your camcorder to your computer.
Impulse13X, there’s no limit to the people you can use. Use 1, or use 63,275…doesn’t matter to me.

You gave a link to the Blackmagic Intensity Pro, but you say you’re giving away the Blackmagic Intensity under Prizes. The Intensity is $100 cheaper than the Intensity Pro, and it can only capture from HDMI. Whereas the Intensity Pro can capture from both HDMI and component video sources. You may want to fix that before you give more people the wrong idea. Only people with Xbox 360’s that have an HDMI output will be able to record with the Intensity. By giving a link to the Intensity Pro, you are giving people the idea that they will be able to capture from a component video source with the Intensity, which only the Intensity Pro can do.
